Why Trigeminal Pain Fluctuates

Sometimes I wake up believing today will be a good day, yet the pain still returns. On other mornings, it is already there before I fully open my eyes.

Pain fluctuations are common in trigeminal neuralgia and trigeminal neuropathy. Sleep quality, stress, central sensitization, weather changes, and emotional processing can all influence symptom severity.

Understanding these factors does not eliminate pain, but it can help explain why good and bad days naturally alternate and why self-compassion is just as important as treatment.
